BETHESDA, Md. - The Georgetown indoor track & field program hosted the third annual Hoya Spiked Shoe Club Invitational today at the Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence on the campus of Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Md. Six new meet records and 13 events were won by student-athletes listed on the 2012-13 roster.
The men's and women's mile highlighted the day with two Hoyas setting a new meet record in both events. Bobby Peavey (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) won the men's mile while leading a trio of runners, with a new meet record of 4:07.91. He was followed by Miles Schoedler (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) in second (4:18.25) and Silas Frantz (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) in third (4:21.16).
All-American Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) set a new meet record in the women's mile with a time of 4:44.37 while two other Hoyas finished in the top four in Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) in third (5:02.54) and Sarah Cotton (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) in fourth (5:07.79).
Devante Washington (Lafayette, La./Lafayette) set a meet record as he ran in the three-section 300-meter dash finals with a time of 34.84, besting the previous record of 35.18 set in 2011. Hansel Akers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) finished second (35.22) followed by Kadeem Hunter (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) in third (36.22) and Mike Minahan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont Hill) in fourth (36.32).
Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) won the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 39.88, a new meet record, running in heat two of the five-section final on time. Tenille Stoudenmire (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) finished third with a time of 40.79.
Running unattached, Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) won the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:15.72, a new meet record. Collin Leibold ( Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) and John Murray (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) finished third and fourth with times of 8:20.33 and 8:22.54, respectively. Also setting a meet record, Eghosa Aghayere (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta Sperry) recorded a 6.70m mark in the men's long jump, besting the previous record of 6.65m set one year ago by Richard D'Ambrosio (Collegeville, Pa./Malvern Prep).
In the women's 1,000-meter run, All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) won the event while leading six Hoyas through the finish. Cox timed in at 2:48.66 followed by Rachel Paul (Famingville, N.Y./Sachem East) in second (2:50.28), Hannah Neczypor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) in third (2:50.50), Samantha Nadel (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) in fourth (2:51.99), Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) in fifth (2:52.00) and All-American Madeline Chambers (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) in sixth (2:55.54). All six Hoyas were in the first heat of the two-section final.
Haley Pierce () won the women's 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:42.63, edging out fellow Hoya All-American Emily Jones (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield) who finished second (9:46.57). The pair were the only ones to break 10 minutes in the field.
The men's 1,000-meter run was a two-heat final on time with the first heat coming out faster. Running unattached, Ahmed Bile (Annandale, Va./Annandale) took the top spot with a time of 2:25.97. He was followed by Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) who finished second (2:26.67) and Michael Reher (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) in third, timing in at 2:27.25. GU's Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) finished fifth with a time 2:28.46. The top six came from heat one.
Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) won the men's 500-meter dash with a time of 1:04.75. The two-section final saw Ledder in heat one of two as he ran with three other Hoya athletes. Ryun Holder (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) finished third (1:06.52) followed by Brian Hencke (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) in fourth (1:06.53) and Giancarlo Sainato (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie) in fifth (1:06.80).
The 60-meter dash final was much faster than the prelim and saw a quartet of Hoyas at the front. Tyler Smith (Jeffersonville, Pa./Norristown) edged out freshman Washington for the top spot, both recording a 7.06 while Hunter finished third (7.21) and Wilburn Logan (Kingston, R.I./North Kingstowne/Gunnery) finished fourth (7.27). Wilburn "Chance" Logan is a two-sport athlete who also played four years on the football team. The last two-sport athlete on the men's track & field team was Kenny Mitchell who also played on the football team.
In the women's 500-meter dash, Kristen Walsh (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) was the first in a trio of Hoya finishers as she took second place with a time of 1:17.89 followed by Heather Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) in third (1:18.06) and Natalie Englese (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) in fourth (1:19.38).
Becca DeLoache (), King, Paul and Cox got together to win the women's 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:01.91, edging out Chambers, Neczypor, Nadel and Schneider in second (9:02.02).
The Hoyas will travel to State College, Pa., for the Penn State Invitational on January 25-26.
