Hoyas Continue on Final Weekend of Indoor Track & Field Regular Season

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program has contingents on both coasts on the last day of competition before the championships portion of the indoor schedule. The Blue & Gray also sent a trio to Saint Louis, Mo., for the USA Junior Cross Country Championships.

The Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Wash., featured Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) taking eighth in the men's 3,000-meter invitational with a time of 7:53.69, a little more than one second off the NCAA automatic qualifying time. Springer's time did qualify him for the conference championships in New York City.

Men's distance coach Michael Banks also competed in Washington as he finished seventh in the men's invitational mile with a time of 4:00.91. He was the second post-collegiate finisher in the field.

At the BU Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University a quartet of Hoyas competed in the men's 3,000-meter run with Ben Furcht (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) leading the way in eighth place as he timed in at 8:12.06. Brian King (Sonoma, Calif./Cardinal Newman) followed up with a 17th-place performance (8:18.69) followed by Silas Frantz (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) with a time of 8:23.68 and John Murray (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) with a time of 8:24.18. The last two competed unattached while Furcht and King both qualified for the BIG EAST Championships.

In the men's 800, Theon O'Connor (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) took eighth overall and the second collegiate finish with a time of 1:49.37, easily qualifying for the conference championships.



The men's mile featured four Hoyas to cross the finish with the first being Bobby Peavey (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) with a time of 4:04.56 followed by Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) with a time of 4:06.27. Max Darrah (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) finished with a time of 4:07.13 while Michael Reher (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) rounded out the Hoya finishers with a time of 4:11.30. All were BIG EAST qualifying times.

Miles Schoedler (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) ran 2:29.61 in the men's 1,000-meter run to finish 18th and qualify for the BIG EAST Championships next weekend.

At the USA Junior Cross Country Championships in Saint Louis, Mo., Collin Leibold (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) finished with a time of 25:16.8, pacing a 5:06 mile. Ryan Gil (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) paced a 5:11 mile for a final time of 25:16.8 to finish 14th overall. The final Hoya to cross the finish line was Austin Gregor (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) who finished 18th with a time of 26:03.4, pacing a 5:15 mile.

The Blue & Gray continues competition at the BIG EAST Championships on February 18-19 held at the Armory in New York City.
