WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team split sites this weekend traveling to both South Bend, Ind., and New York City on the final weekend of competition before the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

A small group of runners went to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Bobby Peavey, Mike Andre, Billy Ledder and Andrew Springer ran in the distance medley relay, running in a highly-competitive field that currently boasts 18 of the top-20 times nationally. The Hoyas finished 16th with a time of 9:33.40, currently the 17th-fastest time in the country.

In the same meet, Springer finished eighth in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:04.80.

At the Columbia Last Chance Meet held in the familiar confines of the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory (New York City), a small contingent of Hoyas fought for a final chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The two-day event saw the Georgetown women's distance medley relay team win the event with a time of 10:57.95. It is the best time posted by the Georgetown women this season and is currently tabbed the fourth-best time recorded in the country. The foursome of All-American Rachel Schneider, Deseree King, All-American Chelsea Cox and Katrina Coogan easily won the race, besting the second-place UConn team by more than four seconds.

Schneider also ran a season best in the mile as she took third place with a time of 4:37.08. The time is currently the 18th-best time in the nation.

Andrea Keklak cracked the top 50 as she finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.25, good enough for eighth place in the race.

Also competing at the Columbia meet was former Hoya All-American Andrew Bumbalough in the men's 5,000-meter run. Bumbalough finished third in the event with a time Bumbalough return13:23.68 behind Olympian Lopez Lomong, who ran an American record 13:07.00, besting Bernard Lagat's record of 13:07.15. Chris Derrick finished second with a time of 13:12.00.

Bumbalough returned to the Armory two weeks after the 106th running of the Millrose Games that featured one of the most stacked fields in recent history. Bumbalough finished second in the 3,000-meter run that weekend, running the third-best American time in the 3k at the time.

The Hoyas will compete at the 2013 NCAA Indoor National Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 8-9 at Randal Tyson Track.
