Georgetown Track & Field Finishes First Day at ECAC/IC4A Championships

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown track & field team returned to Boston, Mass., for the second weekend in a row, this time for the ECAC / IC4A Championships. The Hoyas put up strong times on the first day of the two-day meet with 11 advancing in individual events and one relay squad advancing to Sunday's finals.

On the men's side, Bobby Peavey (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) recorded the fastest time in the men's mile trials automatically qualifying for tomorrow's final with a time of 4:07.47, winning his first heat. Cole Williams (San Francisco, Calif./Occidental College) automatically qualified for the men's 1,000-meter trials with a time of 2:28.62, winning the third heat. In the men's 500-meter dash, Nathaniel Gordon (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) advanced to the finals of the men's 500-meter dash with a trial time of 1:04.14, taking third in the second heat.

The men's distance medley relay team put up the best time in the trials, with the foursome of Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon), Zach Zingsheim (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic), Michael Lederhouse (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Collin Leibold (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) recording a time of 9:54.03 to win the first heat.

In one of the few events that went final today, Eghosa Aghayere (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta Academy) took seventh place, scoring points for the Hoyas, with a mark of 14.63 in the men's triple jump.

 

 

On the women's side, All-American Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) qualified for Sunday's finals in two events with the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She advanced through two rounds of the 60-meter dash, recording a time of 7.61 in the semifinals to automatically qualify for the finals. She returned to the track just over one hour later and qualified for the women's 200-meter dash, winning heat six with a time of 23.87 with the top eight times advancing.

Annamarie Maag (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit Prep) will compete in Sunday's final as she automatically qualified with a second-place time of 4:51.76 in the first heat. The women's 800-meter trials saw Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) both advance automatically with the top two spots in the second heat, 2:08.58 and 2:08.80, respectively.

Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), competing in her first year on the Hilltop, and Heather Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) nearly crossed the finish line of the 1,000-meter run together with respective times of 2:50.32 and 2:50.33 in the first heat. Both qualify for Sunday's finals automatically.

The Hoyas will remain in Boston for the finals tomorrow and return upon the completion of the event.
