WASHINGTON - The Georgetown track & field team is in Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with the Hoyas competing in three events. Georgetown, always a presence in the distance events, have competitors in the women's mile, women's distance medley relay and the women's 3,000-meter run.
All-American Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) advanced to the finals of the mile today with a time of 4:38.29 in the preliminary heats. Schneider finished sixth in the first heat to qualify for the finals on time.
Schneider was the lead off in the women's distance medley relay tonight with Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) taking over the 400-meter leg. All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) was in charge of the 800-meter leg and it appeared to be a battle of the BIG EAST through 400 meters of the third stanza with Villanova and Notre Dame in the mix. Through the final exchange, Michigan took over the lead - one the Wolverines would not relinquish for the remainder of the race. Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Philips Exeter Academy) anchored the Hoyas to a sixth-place finish with a time of 11:01.49. The Wolverines won the event timing in at 10:56.46 followed by Villanova (10:57.96), Arkansas (11:00.23), Florida State (11:00.78), Kentucky (11:01.14), GU (11:01.31), Notre Dame (11:01.49) and Oregon (11:02.15) to make the podium.
Schneider will compete in the 10-person finals of the mile at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday. All-American Madeline Chambers (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) and Coogan will compete in the finals of the women's 3,000-meter run at 8:40 p.m. ET. A live stream of the event is available on www.espn3.com.
