WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program had a successful first day at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., as four individuals will return to the track on Saturday. Saturday's events will be broadcast live on ESPN 3, with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. ET. A tape delay of the championship will air Monday, March 23 starting at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

The men's distance medley relay (DMR) finished fourth among 12 teams, improving upon 2014's 10th-place performance. Cole Williams (San Francisco, Calif./Occidental College) opened with the 1,200-meter leg of the DMR, keeping the Hoyas among the top three throughout the majority of his stanza, handing off in second place. Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) closed the gap over his final straightaway of his 400-meter frame to hand off to All-American Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) for the 800-mger leg.

Shoulder-to-shoulder with Iowa State through the final handoff, the Hoyas looked to All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day), a sub-four miler, to anchor the DMR. The sophomore led for much of his frame but it was a tall order to ask anyone to outkick Oregon's Edward Cheserek. With a big kick over the final 200 meters, Bartelsmeyer slipped to fourth place overall as the Hoyas recorded a time of 9:32.51. This is the best finish under the tutelage of Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Patrick Henner; the last time the Hoyas finished fourth was during the 2006 season.

All-American Ahmed Bile (Annandale, Va./Annandale) continues to make history this indoor season on the Hilltop, becoming the only Hoya to ever run three sub-four miles in one indoor season. Competing in the second of a two-heat prelim, Bile ran 3:59.92 for fifth place in his heat and to qualify for Saturday's final on time. He closed 28.95 split over the final 200 meters, the second-fastest split for the final frame.

All-American Ryan Manahan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) will return for the men's 800-meter finals on Saturday, as a mad sprint down the home straightaway secured his spot on time. The sophomore recorded a time of 1:48.91, closing with a 27.16 split over the final 200 meters, the fastest split of the prelim.

The women's distance medley relay saw the foursome of All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore./Grant) and Samantha Nadel (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) finish seventh in the 12-team field, clocking 11:11.50.

Coogan led off for the Hoyas but a bold pace from Villanova's Angel Piccirillo put the Blue & Gray behind the mark through the first handoff. DeLoache, previously running her 800-meter prelim a little over an hour prior, took over the 400-meter leg but another standout performance, this time from Arkansas' Sparkle McKnight, was too much for the Hoyas to overcome. GU remained in the chase field, finishing seventh overall.

The women's 800-meter prelims saw DeLoache and All-American Sabrina Southerland (New York, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) compete in the first of two heats with Deloache narrowly edging out Southerland on the inside, clocking 2:07.30 while Southerland finished with a time of 2:07.42. With the second heat knowing the time to beat, all time qualifiers came from the final heat with the duo failing to advance to Saturday's final.
