Georgetown Track & Field Competes at Virginia Invitational, Stanford Invitational

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Track & Field team competed in their first meets of the outdoor season this weekend, splitting sites at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31, and at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., also on Sunday.

A select group of athletes traveled to the Stanford Invitational, with 10 men and six women meeting the qualifying standards for the 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) placed fifth in section two of the 1,500-meter run, completing the race in a time of 4:21.84. Sophomore Hannah Neczypor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) also came in fifth place in section three of the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:26.16. Both times meet the qualifying standards for 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships along with Andrea Keklak's (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) time of 4:26.40.

NCAA qualifier Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), junior Madeline Chambers (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) sophomore Annamarie Maag (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) each qualified in the 5,000-meter run, with Coogan running the fastest time of the three in 15:50.08. Maag completed the event in a time of 16:43.05 and Chambers finished in a time of 16:50.86.

Bobby Peavey (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) was one of three men to post a qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run, running the fastest time for the Hoyas in 3:47.58. Three men also qualified for BIG EAST championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) completing the event in a time of 9:02.18.



Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) qualified in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:46.05, almost one minute faster than the qualifying standard. John Murray (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) also qualified in the 5,000-meter run, while Brian King (Sonoma, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and Mark Dennin (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) qualified in the 10,000-meter run.

In Charlottesville, Va., two women reached the qualifying standards for BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. BIG EAST champion Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) qualified In the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.52 seconds and freshman Sarah Cotton (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) posted a time of 4:32.32 in the 1,500-meter run, qualifying her for BIG EAST championships.

The Georgetown track & field team next competes at the Colonia Relays in Williamsburg, Va., on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5. Racing will be an all-day event on both days of competition.
