DES MOINES, Iowa - With just one race on schedule for the Hoyas on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, senior London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy) set up for her final NCAA race for the Hoyas. She finished eighth in the finals of the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.74. No stranger to Drake Stadium as she has competed in a race each day of the 2012 championships, she took to the track for the last time in her Hoya career.
Finley had a luxury that escapes many track athletes - she knew this would be her last race of the championships. Finley reached the finals of the women's 400-meter hurdles, one of only eight athletes in the country to do so. While many athletes have to treat every race as if it is their last, Finley knew that this was it and put it all out on the track today.
The senior had never previously reached an NCAA Championship final and it was the perfect way to cap a senior season that can only be described as stellar. Finley has done everything right this season and continued to improve her racing style with each competition.
Competing in lane two for the race, Finley got out to a solid start and had a solid first 150 meters where the field was tight. Over the last 200 meters with everyone putting in their final kicks, Finley placed eighth with a time of 58.74.
The Hoyas continue the competition tomorrow for the final day of the championships. All-Americans Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and Madeline Chambers (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) will both be competing tomorrow with Infeld hitting the track in the women's 1,500-meter run scheduled for 12:28 p.m. ET and Chambers competing in the women's 5,000-meter run set for 1:19 p.m. ET. Live coverage of the event will be available on ESPNU tomorrow.
