WASHINGTON - National powerhouses men’s and women’s cross country wrapped up competition today at the 2015 NCAA Pre-National Meet, held at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. The men finished fifth overall with 251 points in the seeded 8,000-meter red race while the women finished seventh with 381 points in the seeded 6,000-meter red race.

Georgetown Men’s Cross Country; 5th; 217 points (6 / 19 / 48 / 70 / 71)
The men, tabbed 10th in the latest U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, finished fifth in the 42-team field behind No. 1 Colorado (89), No. 3 Oregon (151), No. T13 Arkansas (164) and No. T13 UTEP (197).

“The men had a solid day,” Men’s Distance Coach Brandon Bonsey said. “Jon Green had the best individual performance by a Hoya male cross country runner since Andrew Bumbalough. He ran with some of the best guys in the country and held his own and his finishing sixth was a huge accomplishment. I thought the rest of the top five worked together well. Darren Fahy ran a great race and is capable of running even closer to Jon. Today wasn’t about the results. It was about getting a feel for the course and learning what we need to do for the NCAA meet.”

The men’s performance was highlighted by Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John’s High School), who finished sixth overall to provide the low stick for the Hoyas. His time of 23:28.7 over the 8,000-meter course is made even more impressive as Green fell at the 6,000-meter mark, got stepped on and still managed to get back up to finish strong.

“I’m feeling very positive about this weekend,” Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Michael Smith said. “The way we train at Georgetown, the course we saw today and the people we have coming on in the next few weeks – I think both the men’s and women’s program have to feel really good after this race and that the path ahead of us is really clear. I’m glad we went to Pre-Nats and it was a really good decision for our athletes and the coaching staff to be out here and preview this course.”

Leading the Hoyas was cross country All-American Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton), competing in just her second collegiate race (including indoor and outdoor track) since the 2014 cross country season. Keklak looked to be getting closer to form with a 33rd-place finish, clocking 20:35.2 over the 6,000-meter race. Also inserting herself into the mix was newcomer Audrey Belf (Birmingham, Mich./Earnest W. Seaholm), who finished 51st overall, good enough for 47 points as she clocked 20:46.3.
