WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men’s track & field team opened the indoor season at the Navy Invitational, a meet held at the Wesley Brown Field House and hosted by the Naval Academy. The season opener was highlighted by a quartet of event titles and nine times among the top three.
“The men competed really well today,” Assistant Track & Field Coach Brandon Bonsey said. “We went 1-2-3 in the 5,000m and 1,500m, 1-2 in the 800m and won the 4x400m.
“Daniel Anderson showed amazing senior leadership. He lead the entire 800m, an event he’s new to, and anchored our wining 4x400m. He’s upped his volume in training and his strength he added in the offseason was on display today. Joe White has been focusing on his strength as well and it showed in his 1,500m win. We saw flashes of brilliance from our talented freshman class as well.”
Georgetown took all three podium spots in a pair of events. The 1,500-meter run saw All-American Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) take first, followed by Charles Cooper (Montreal, Canada/Lower Canada College) and Eion Nohilly (Golden’s Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) in second and third. White closed the final 100 meters in 12.4 seconds.
The day started with a trio of Hoyas going 1-2-3 in the 5,000-meter run as Connor Sheryak (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) won the event as Reilly Bloomer (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) and Nick Golebiowski (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) took second and third.
In the 800-meter run, Daniel Anderson (Ozark, Mo./Ozark) won the event (1:54.68) and Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I./La Salle Academy) followed right behind in second. It was the first indoor 800 meter of Anderson’s career on the Hilltop and is more than a six-second improvement upon his fastest outdoor time.
“We now have a five-week break from racing,” Bonsey continued. “This is a crucial training block for us. The indoor season goes quick and on January 14, when we head to Penn State, we have to be ready to compete against some of the best teams in the country.”
Both the Georgetown men’s and women’s team will compete at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind., on Friday, Dec. 9.
