WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men’s track & field team opened the indoor season at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at the Wesley Brown Field House and hosted by the Naval Academy. The season opener was highlighted by a quartet of event titles and eight marks among the top three.
The Georgetown 4x400-meter relay foursome came away with the title again, with the quartet of Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain) Rey Rivera (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and Nate Alleyne (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) claiming the title with a time of 3:17.37. The winning time was more than a full second faster than GU’s winning time from 2016 at this same meet. Following the third leg, GU was behind but an impressive come-from-behind anchor leg from Alleyne propelled the Blue & Gray to the win.
Also winning their events were Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) in the 800-meter run, Charles Cooper (Montreal, Quebec/Lower Canada College) in the 1,500-meter run and Eion Nohilly (Golden's Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) in the 3,000-meter run. Brown eclipsed the field by more than a 2-second margin, clocking 1:54.23. Cooper finished first (3:48.97), followed by teammate Joshua Bell (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) in second (3:49.32). Nohilly dominated the field with a time of 8:30.40 with more than three seconds separating him from second place.
The Georgetown women’s team will open the season on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the Navy Lid Lifter, also held at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Both teams will take a break for the holiday and return on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, for the Nittany Lion Challenge, held in State College, Pa.
