WASHINGTON - The Georgetown track & field team opened the 2013-14 indoor season at the Navy Invitational on Friday night in Annapolis, Md. The Hoya men showed their strength in the middle distance and distance with five first-place finishes on the day including four individual races and one relay.
Georgetown dominated the men's 1,500-meter run with a quartet of Hoyas taking the top spots with just over one second separating the first and third runners. Michael Reher (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) led the way with a time of 3:52.89 followed by Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Sant Louis Country Day) in second (3:53.73), Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) in third (3:53.93) and Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) in fourth (3:59.29).
The Blue & Gray continued to control the middle distance and distance as they took the top two spots in the men's 3,000-meter run. Ryan Gil (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) took the top spot with a time of 8:15.23 followed by Michael Lederhouse (Glen Ellyn, Ill./GlenbardWest) in second, timing in at 8:19.24.
Also turning in a first-place finish was Connor Sheryak (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) who won the men's 5,000-meter run with a 14:42.83 performance.
Devante Washington (Lafayette, La./Lafayette) finished third in the men's 200-meter dash with at time of 21.87, competing in the fastest of the heats, the fifth of five.
In the relays, Reher, Ogel, Zingsheim and Sorensen won the men's 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:58.90.
The women open the season Saturday, December 7 at the Bucknell Invitational hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
Both teams will take the remainder of the calendar year off and return to action on Saturday, January 11 at the George Mason Invitational, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
