WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) was named the BIG EAST Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office in New York. The track & field team had a stellar weekend of competition at the Penn State National Invitational, hosted by Penn State University at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in State College, Pa.
Coogan earned the distinction following a weekend where she anchored the women's distance medley relay to a nation-leading time of 10:57.71, splitting 4:36 unofficially over her 1,600-meter leg. It is currently the only collegiate time this season to break 11 minutes according to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
The senior followed up Friday night's DMR with a second-place finish in the women's mile, clocking 4:36.16, the top collegiate time from the race as she finished second to former teammate and Hoya All-American Rachel Schneider, now competing post-collegiately. Coogan's mile time is currently the fifth-fastest time in the country and the best among BIG EAST Conference institutions.
This is the second conference honor in the sport of track & field for Coogan but the fourth league honor of her career as she previously earned the cross country distinction twice.
Georgetown returns to action on Friday and Saturday, February 13-14 at the BU Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University in Boston, Mass.
