Okengwu Named as Georgetown University's 2011-12 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete

Biyerem Okengwu (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Township) was named Georgetown’s American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete by the conference on Wednesday, February 8. Okengwu is a member of the men’s track & field team.

Okengwu qualified for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on February 3 at the New Balance Invitational, finishing the 60-meter hurdles race in 8.24. He has qualified for postseason competition in four years of racing for the Hoyas.

Cincinnati’s Eric Finan was named the 2011-12 American Eagle Outfitter’s BIG EAST Male-Scholar Athlete of the Year. Finan runs cross country and track & field for the Bearcats.

The American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program honors one male student-athlete for the BIG EAST Conference, and one from each member institution. The scholar-athlete of the year receives a $4,000 scholarship to put toward graduate work, while each institution winner receives $2,000 for graduate studies.
