WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) was named the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league. The honor comes after Bartelsmeyer ran a new personal record in the men’s mile. Bartelsmeyer was part of a contingent of athletes who traveled to Boston for the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational while another group traveled to the Hawkeye State for the Iowa State Classic in Ames.
Bartelsmeyer took fourth overall in the mile, clocking 3:57.53. His time is the second-fastest mark in program history and ranks 13th nationally and sits atop the BIG EAST leaderboard.
This is the second BIG EAST weekly award of Bartelsmeyer’s career and the first indoor iteration as he previously garnered the honor during the 2017 outdoor season. It is the third weekly award for the GU men this season and the fourth total for the Blue & Gray.
Both squads will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 17, for the final competition before the 2018 BIG EAST Championships. The Hoyas will compete at both the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, as well as the JDL Fast Track Last Chance Meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
