WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University cross country / track & field program is among the best in the nation on both the men's and women's side following the release of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Program of the Year Standings. The men are tabbed seventh on the standings for the John McDonnell Program of the Year Award while the women are eighth in the Terry Crawford Program of the Year standings following the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships.

The award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year based on the institution's finish at the NCAA Championships. In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field, with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient following the completion of the outdoor championships.

Following a 22nd-place showing at the indoor championships, the men utilize their 17th-place showing at the cross country national championship to combine for 39 points behind Oregon (7), Oklahoma State (22.5), Wisconsin (29.5), Colorado (30), Arkansas (31) and Texas (32). Rounding out the top 10 are Tulsa (44.5), Virginia (46) and New Mexico (48).

Georgetown is one of two BIG EAST institutions to make the list of 23 on the men's side with Villanova showing up at No. 12 with 55 points.

The women are eighth in the standings with 34.5 points following a 30th-place showing at the indoor championships and a fourth-place performance at the cross country national championship. Arkansas leads the 20-team field with six points followed by Oregon (8), Stanford (22), Providence (24), Michigan State (25.5), Baylor (26), Wisconsin (29), Georgetown (34.5) Florida State (36.5) and Iona (48) for the top 10.

The Blue & Gray are one of two BIG EAST Conference teams to make the women's list with both the Providence College Friars and the Hoyas among the top eight. The BIG EAST is one of three conferences with two teams among the top 10 along joining the Pac-12 (Oregon, Stanford) and the Big Ten (Michigan State, Wisconsin).

The Georgetown track & field program will open the outdoor season on March 27-28 at the Fred Hardy Invitational, held in Richmond, Va.
