WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-Americans Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) were named the BIG EAST Conference Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday. The honor comes after the Hoyas split sites between the Stanford Twilight Meet (Palo Alto, Calif.) and the UVA Challenge (Charlottesville, Va.) over the weekend.
The league accolades mark the fourth time this track & field season that the Hoyas have swept the conference weekly track honors, previously sweeping on April 12 (Ahmed Bile and Sabrina Southerland), Feb. 9 (Bile and Southerland) and Feb. 3 (Andrea Keklak and White).
White earns the honor following his winning time of 1:46.67 in the men’s 800-meter run at the Stanford Twilight Meet last Friday. The time was a new personal record (PR) for the sophomore, leads the BIG EAST Conference and ranks among the top eight in NCAA Division I and No. 6 in the East region.
This is White’s first conference honor of the outdoor season and the fourth of his career.
Coogan earns the league nod following her performance in the 5,000-meter run at the UVA Challenge. Coogan turned in the best collegiate finish of the meet, finishing second overall as she clocked 15:50.51. Her time is the best from the BIG EAST Conference this season and is the fifth-fastest in NCAA Division I this season, third in the East region.
This is the fifth overall league honor for Coogan and the first of the 2016 outdoor season.
The Hoyas return to the track for the 2016 Penn Relays Carnival, held at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa., from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30.
