WASHINGTON - Georgetown track & field All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field Team for District II as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.
Coogan, a seven-time All-American on the Hilltop, had an impeccable cross country season that saw her win the individual BIG EAST Conference and Mid-Atlantic Region title while leading the Hoyas to both team titles. It was the first time since 2007 that a Hoya had won either event. Coogan became the third GU student-athlete to win the BIG EAST title (Suzanne Girard - 1983, Melissa Grelli - 2007) and the Blue & Gray picked up two league titles during her four seasons of competition (2012, 2014).
At the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Coogan added two more All-America accolades as she led off for the seventh-place Hoyas in the women's distance medley relay and finished fourth in the women's 3,000-meter finals. It was the third-straight year she had earned first team honors in the event, bettering her finish each year. The 2015 season marks the fourth-consecutive year and the fifth time in six years the Hoyas have had a competitor in the finals of the event.
Coogan is a human science major at Georgetown and is still competing this outdoor season, entering the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships - East Preliminary in the women's1,500-meter run. Coogan enters the three-day meet with the third-fastest time (4:13.13) among declared athletes in the East region. Coogan won the same event at the 2015 BIG EAST Championships, her first conference outdoor title and the third overall individual league title of her career.
This is the second-consecutive track & field / cross country district honor as All-American Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) and Matt Howard (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) both earned the distinction in 2014. Keklak went on to earn Capital One Academic All-America Second Team honors in the national ballot.
The Hoyas continue the season at the 2015 NCAA Championships East Preliminary, held Thursday, May 28 through Saturday, May 30 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
