WASHINGTON - Georgetown track & field alum Emily Infeld advanced to the women’s 5,000-meter finals following a fourth-place performance in Thursday’s semifinals at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Also qualifying for the next round of competition are alums Treniere (Clement) Moser and Rachel Schneider, both moving on to the 1,500-meter semifinals. The 10-day trials is being held at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene.
A live broadcast of the trials will be available on NBC and its family of networks in addition to their digital properties. The 10-day meet can be streamed in its entirety on the NBC Sports Live Extra app.
The field stayed close together for the majority of the race but with four laps to go, a clear lead pack of four, including Infeld, had formed. With two laps left, the quartet picked up the pace and started to pull away. Infeld, now running for Nike’s Bowerman Track Club, clocked 15:40.35 to finish fourth for one of the six automatic bids to the finals. She will compete in the finals of the event on Sunday, July 10 at 7:28 p.m. ET. Infeld has already made her first Olympic team as she qualified in the 10,000-meter run last Saturday.
Despite getting tripped up in the first heat, Schneider got back up and ran 4:22.94, eventually clinching the final time spot. In the final heat, Moser ran 4:19.38 to advance to the semifinals, also on time. The pair will compete in the 24-person semifinal on Friday, July 8 at 8:03 p.m. ET.
