Kenya Kirkland was promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2012-13 season after spending six years with the program in a number of capacities.

Kirkland played for Georgetown from 2006-10 and most recently served as the assistant operations manager while working on her master's in social and public policy. Kirkland will work primarily with the guards and on the defense as well spending time recruiting.

Kirkland joined the staff in 2010 after a four-year career on the Hilltop where she was a team captain as a senior and appeared in 109 games with 17 starts to her credit.

In her role as assistant operations manager, she assisted all four coaches in the office and in practice, working primarily on defensive schemes.

In Kirkland's four playing seasons, the Hoyas steadily improved earning a pair of postseason berths including a trip to the WNIT and another to the NCAA Tournament.

Her junior year, Georgetown went to the WNIT and posted an impressive run to the quarterfinals. As a senior, Georgetown broke out onto the national scene posting a 16-game win streak, national rankings and a trip to the NCAA Tournament where the squad fell in the second round to Final Four-participant Baylor.

Kirkland graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and participated in both the Leadership Academy and Grassroot Hoyas.

Kirkland is currently attending Georgetown's School of Continuing Studies working toward a master's in social and public policy.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kirkland currently resides in Northwest Washington, D.C.
