Adrian Walters joined the women's basketball staff in April of 2011. Walters came to the Hilltop from El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., where he spent three years as the associate head men's basketball coach for the Warriors. At El Camino, Walters played an important role in recruiting and player development, specifically working with the post players. He managed the team defensive schemes and also oversaw the student-athletes' academic development. Prior to El Camino, Walters spent one season at Hampton University as the associate head coach with the Pirates. He worked on the day-to-day operations dealing with recruiting, academics, eligibility and community relations. Walters also oversaw the coaching staff and managers as well as serving as a point person on fundraising. Walters began his coaching career in 1992 as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Southern California. He was there for four seasons under Head Coach George Raveling. With the Trojans, Walters played a versatile role doing everything from recruiting to operations and scouting. During his tenure at USC, the squad earned a pair of postseason bids including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1994. Following his stint with the Trojans, Walters made the move to Central Connecticut State where he was an assistant men's basketball coach for one season. Walters graduated with a bachelor's degree in social work from Saint Francis University (Pa.) in 1987. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Red Flash. Walters also received a master's of social work from Gallaudet University and he is currently working on his master's of kinesiology from California State-Dominguez Hills. Walters has two children, Adriana and Elias. He resides in Silver Spring, Md. |
