Hoyas Host Xavier at Home on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women’s basketball team will host the Xavier University Musketeers in GU’s BIG EAST Conference home opener on Tuesday afternoon at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Additionally, junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for her efforts over the past two games.

In a 1-1 opening BIG EAST week for the Hoyas (6-6, 1-1 BIG EAST), White averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals, including 25 points and eight boards in a 75-43 win at Providence.

Georgetown Defeats Xavier, 81-63, on Senior Day
The Georgetown University women's basketball team (17-9, 9-7 BIG EAST) defeated the Xavier University Musketeers (11-16, 3-13 BIG EAST), 81-63, Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena in the home regular season finale. It was the second-consecutive game that the Blue & Gray surpassed 80 points.

In its last outing, Georgetown fell, 69-58, at Creighton University. White led the way with 18 points and five rebounds. She was followed by senior guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) who tallied 17 points and a team-high six assists. Venson also managed her 1,000th career point in the contest. Senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) rounded out those in double figures with 10 points and a squad-high 10 rebounds for the fourth double-double of her career and first of the season.

Georgetown has three Hoyas averaging in double figures. White is averaging 18.3 ppg, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST, to go along with 6.8 rpg and a league-high 38 steals. Venson is second on the squad with 14.8 ppg as well as 2.6 rpg. Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) is averaging a double-double with 11.2 ppg and 10.1 rpg, which ranks third in the league. She is one of just three players to average a double-double in the BIG EAST.



The Hoyas are second in the league in scoring defense allowing just 57.6 ppg, and third in turnover margin holding a +5.25 advantage.

The Musketeers enter the game with an 8-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play. Xavier opened BIG EAST action with a 69-62 win at Butler on Friday. XU led from start to finish and led by as many as 17 points during the game. Three Xavier players scored in double figures in the win including Kindell Fincher (20), Imani Partlow (15) and Anniina Äijänen (12). For her efforts, Fincher was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon.

Georgetown is 5-6 all-time against the Musketeers and 3-1 at home. In the last meeting in the District, the Blue & Gray won, 81-63, a season ago as four Hoyas scored in double figures led by 18 points from Faith Woodard and 17 from Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby). White added 16 and Tyshell King managed 11 for the Hoyas.

Tuesday’s game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Jeremy Huber and Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at McDonough Arena.
