Women's Basketball Falls to No.8 Notre Dame
WASHINGTON (Jan. 8)(AP) -- Georgetown fell victim to Notre Dame and Alicia Ratay as she scored 23 points to lead No. 8 Notre Dame to its eighth straight win, 82-60
Katie Smrcka-Duffy, the Hoyas' leading scorer who was held to a season-low two points in a loss to No. 1 Connecticut on Tuesday, rebounded with a 19-point effort.
Lesley Walker added 15 points for the Hoyas (7-6, 1-2), who have dropped three straight games _ all against ranked teams. Georgetown ends a stretch of four consecutive games against Top 25 teams by hosting No. 11 Rutgers on Jan. 12.
Notre Dame, which improved to 12-1 lifetime against Georgetown, went on a 23-5 run after a pair of free throws by the Hoyas' Nok Duany tied the game at 10 with 14:25 left in the first half.
Meghan Leahy came off the Irish bench to score six of her career-high nine points during the burst.
Georgetown cut the lead to 10 three minutes into the second half on a layup by Smrcka-Duffy, but the Hoyas were never able to recover from a 9-for-31 effort
from the field in the first half.
