Hoyas Travel to Villanova on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women’s basketball team (10-11, 5-6 BIG EAST) will close out a three-game road swing in a BIG EAST Conference matchup against Villanova University on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff against the Wildcats is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jake Nevin Field House. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

On Monday, junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It was the third nod to the weekly honor for White this season and the seventh of her career.

Georgetown Comeback Falls Short Against Villanova
The Georgetown University women’s basketball team made a spirited comeback down the stretch, but fell to the Villanova University Wildcats (13-2, 3-2 BIG EAST), 60-58, in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. With the loss the Hoyas drop to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in league play.

In a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, White averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals. The junior shot 50 percent from the field in Friday’s 63-52 win at Butler, totaling 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. On Sunday, White managed 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 65-48 victory at Xavier.

Georgetown has three Hoyas averaging in double figures. White is averaging 17.4 ppg, ranking third in the BIG EAST, to go along with 6.6 rpg and a league-high 59 steals. Senior guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown/Virginia) is second on the squad with 14.1 ppg, ranking 10th in the league, as well as 2.2 rpg. Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) is averaging 12.4 ppg and 9.4 rpg, which ranks 13th in points and third in the league on the boards. Senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) is leading the conference in blocks with 2.0 bpg.



The Hoyas are second in the league in scoring defense allowing just 59.4 ppg, as well as second in offensive rebounds with 13.2 rpg. Georgetown is leading the league and ranked among the top 20 in the country in turnover margin, holding a +5.81 advantage.

The Wildcats are 17-5 overall and 7-4 in BIG EAST play to currently sit in a tie for third place. VU is coming off of a pair of victories at Xavier (89-50) and Butler (69-67) last weekend. Villanova has four players averaging in double figures Adrianna Hahn is leading the way averaging 11.8 ppg, while Kelly Jekot and Alex Louin are averaging 11.5 and 11.2 ppg, respectively.

Georgetown is 21-41 all-time against the Wildcats, and 7-21 on the road. In the meeting earlier this season, Georgetown made a spirited comeback down the stretch, but fell, 60-58. White led the way with 19 points and five rebounds. She was followed by freshman forward Tatiana Thompson (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) who tallied 13 points. Petke led the squad with 13 rebounds and added five steals. The last meeting in Pennsylvania was a 71-50 Hoya loss a season ago.
