Butler Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
Feb. 3, 2014
WASHINGTON - Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock), a freshman center on the Georgetown University women's basketball squad (7-15, 1-9 BIG EAST), was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday after two outstanding performances for the Blue & Gray.
Butler averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Hoyas, including a game-high 19 points against Villanova on Wednesday. Along with the 19 points, Butler snagged 14 boards against the Wildcats.
She followed that performance with a 14-point, eight-rebound, four-assist showing at Marquette on Saturday. Butler also added a pair of blocks against the Golden Eagles.
Her eight BIG EAST Freshman of the Week certificates put her in a tie for second with Connecticut's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis for most all-time. The league record of 10 newcomer awards is held by Connecticut's Maya Moore (2007-08).
Georgetown has won nine BIG EAST awards so far this year and also had seven nods to the honor roll.
Georgetown will continue its road swing with a trip to Creighton University on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:05 ET. Live stats and a webcast will be available through the Bluejays' athletic website.
