Hoyas' Quick Start Too Much For St. John's
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 17) -- The Hoyas scored the first 12 points of the game and held St. John's scoreless for the first 7:16 on their way to a 72-53 win. GU shot a blistering 58 percent in the first half and led 34-24 at the break. They never trailed in the game.
Katie Smrcka-Duffy (James Madison) led the Hoyas with 23 points. It was her third-straight game with at least 20 points. Smrcka-Duffy moved into second place on the school's career scoring list. The senior now has 1,550 points in her three seasons at Georgetown.
Freshman Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill) added her 12th double-double of the season. She had 15 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Brunson had 13 points and 11 rebounds in the second half. Zsuzsanna Horvath came off the bench to score 12 points and grab seven rebounds.
The Hoyas, who made eight of their first nine shots in the second half, improved to 15-10 with the victory. They are 6-7 in the BIG EAST. St. John's dropped to 7-17 on the year and 2-11 in BIG EAST play. Latasha Thompson led the Red Storm with 19 points.
