Women's Basketball Opens Road Swing at Pitt

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will open a two-game road swing on Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at the Petersen Events Center tipping off at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live in the Pittsburgh area Comcast. The Hoyas are currently 13-12 overall and 4-8 in BIG EAST Conference play.
In its last outing, Georgetown couldn't stop a hot shooting day for the Villanova University Wildcats on Saturday falling, 57-44. Senior shooting guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led all scorers with 21 points, including 19 in the second half, as well as nine rebounds and seven assists. Senior center Sydney Wilson (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College Prep) added 10 points, while junior forward Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) posted six points and nine boards. GU outrebounded Villanova, 37-31, but allowed 15 Wildcat 3-pointers.
Currently leading the way for the Hoyas is senior Rodgers. The shooting guard is averaging 22.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg as well as posting 86 steals and 102 assists. White is second with 10.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while Wilson rounds out the top three with 7.2 ppg as well as 5.4 rpg.
Despite a game-high 24 points from sophomore Brianna Kiesel, Pitt could not muster a comeback in a 59-50 setback to Cincinnati on Wednesday evening. Kiesel had 20 of her 24 points in the second half, including draining three 3-pointers. Junior Marquel Davis added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers who never led in the game. Pitt is now 9-16 overall and 0-12 in BIG EAST play.
Georgetown is 23-27 all-time against the Panthers with a mark of 22-26 in BIG EAST Conference play. Away from home, the Hoyas are 12-16 all-time. GU has won the last four meetings including a 69-57 victory earlier this season at McDonough Arena. Rodgers had 25 points in the win and White added 12 points as well as seven rebounds. In the last meeting at the PEC, the Hoyas won by a score of 82-54.
