No. 15/13 Georgetown Closes Out Road Schedule at Syracuse

WASHINGTON - The No. 15/13 Georgetown University women's basketball squad (21-6, 10-4 BIG EAST) will play the Syracuse University Orange (17-11, 6-8 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. The game is Georgetown's final road game of the regular season.

This past week, the Blue & Gray went 2-0. On Tuesday, Georgetown defeated Villanova University, 60-54, in Villanova, Pa. Senior guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led the Hoyas with 19 points, while senior point guard Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) added 12. Sophomore forward Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. On Saturday, the squad downed Providence, 66-39, at McDonough Arena. Senior forward Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) led the team with 17 points and 10 boards for her fourth-career double-double.

Rodgers has led the Hoyas in points in 21 of 27 games so far this season with a high of 39 points in the win over Dartmouth University at the Blue Sky Classic. She is averaging 19.3 ppg to lead the BIG EAST, 5.3 rpg to rank third on the team and has a squad-high 61 steals. Rodgers also shoots a team-high 82.4 percent from the free throw line and ranks second in assists with 49.

Magee is second on the squad in points and rebounds with 11.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg. Wright is averaging 7.5 ppg, while classmate Alexa Roche (Bellmore, N.Y./St. Michael's Academy) is averaging 4.6 ppg to round out the top four. Wright also leads the Georgetown squad with 119 assists, while senior forward Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) has a team-best 6.0 rpg.

The Orange are 17-11 on the year and 6-8 in conference play. In its previous game, Syracuse upended the No. 21/20 DePaul University Blue Demons, 81-65, in Chicago, Ill. Sophomore Rachel Coffey led the way on a career night with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while hitting threes. Junior Carmen Tyson-Thomas had a double-double with 22 points and 15 boards. The Orange had two additional players in double figures with juniors Kayla Alexander and Elashier Hall notching 17 and 15 points, respectively.

 

 

Georgetown is 29-24 all-time against Syracuse and 11-13 on the road. The teams have already met once this season at McDonough Arena as the Hoyas cruised to the 69-42 victory. Rodgers and Wright combined for 38 points to lead the way for the Hoyas. Crawford brought down six boards, and Magee as well as Wright both came out with five. GU converted 38 points off of 32 SU turnovers, and managed 18 steals in the contest. Georgetown tallied a season-high 12 treys, besting the 11 made against UNLV on Nov. 27.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
