WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Women's Basketball Head Coach Natasha Adair announced the addition of one more student-athlete to join the squad this upcoming season. Yazmine Belk will come to the Hilltop this summer to begin her career with the Blue & Gray.
"I'm ecstatic about the addition Yazmine and her family," said Adair. "Yaz will be a strong force inside with her ability to finish around the rim. She will help anchor our efforts towards a BIG EAST Championship."
Belk is a 6-3 center who currently ranks No. 16 in her position in the nation and comes to Georgetown with a number of high school accolades. She played at Nazareth Regional High School under Head Coach Ron Kelly and plays AAU with Exodus out of New York.
"The history of the university and family atmosphere of the coaches and players made Georgetown the place where I wanted to further my education and continue to develop as a basketball player," said Belk.
The Queens, N.Y., native helped guide Nazareth Regional High School to the Catholic Class A state title as a junior and to the championship game as a senior. Last season, she averaged 8.3 ppg and 10.0 rpg as well as 1.8 blocks per game and was the team captain. Belk was First Team All-Brooklyn and named to the All-Tournament Team at the Nike TOC Holiday Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
Her junior year, Belk averaged 9.0 ppg, 11.7 rpg and 1.2 blocks per game en route to team MVP accolades as well as First Team All-State honors. As a freshman, she was named the league's defensive player of the year, while also earning the squad's Most Improved award.
Belk will begin classes on the Hilltop this summer.
