WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team and coaching staff will be in attendance at Tuesday's Washington Mystics vs. New York Liberty WNBA game at Verizon Center. The Hoyas will be there to promote the upcoming season and spend time with campers from Coach A's Basketball Camp. Additionally, fans will have a chance to see former Hoya Sugar Rodgers who plays for the Liberty.
Members of the Georgetown team will be available on the concourse to sign autographs and give out schedules. There will also be a Dress Like a Hoya photo booth and the opportunity to win prizes. The team will later go out on the court to be recognized.
Besides members of the squad and Georgetown fans, players at Coach A's Basketball Camp, which will run next week, are encouraged to come and wear their camp t-shirt.
Rodgers is a 2013 Georgetown graduate and the Hoyas all-time leader in points and 3-pointers. She was the 14th overall draft pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, picked up by the Minnesota Lynx. With the Lynx, she won a WNBA Championship last season before being traded to the Liberty before the 2014 season.
This year, Rodgers has appeared in all 26 games for the Liberty averaging 10.7 minutes per game. She is averaging 6.3 ppg as well as 2.2 rpg and 1.4 apg. She scored a season-best 21 points in a loss to the San Antonio Stars in early July and had 18 points in an 84-80 win over the Seattle Storm last week.
Rodgers is one of two active WNBA players from Georgetown. Three-time WNBA All-Star Rebekkah Brunson recently returned to the lineup for the Minnesota Lynx following knee surgery in May.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Verizon Center and tickets are available through the Mystics website or through the box office.
