Hoyas defeat Lafayette, 87-43




Washington, D.C. (Nov. 27, 1999) -- Georgetown had four players score in double figures as the Hoyas defeated Lafayette, 87-43. Georgetown fell behind early, 8-7, but scored the next 14 points and never trailed again. The Hoyas forced 29 Lafayette turnovers and shot better than 51 percent from the field in recording their second-straight win.

Junior Katie Smrcka-Duffy (Sterling, Va./James Madison) scored 20 points in just 24 minutes to lead the Hoyas. Senior Danielle Hurley (Commack, N.Y./Commack)added 16 points, while junior Porshia Jones (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale) chipped in with her first career double-double. Jones scored 12 points and had a career-high 11 rebounds.

The Hoyas' defense held the Leopards (0-3) to just 27 percent shooting in the second half. Overall, Lafayette shot just 31 percent from the field. Georgetown had a season-high 20 steals in the contest. Smrcka-Duffy had five of those steals.

Georgetown is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when they play at regional-rival George Mason.
