Richmond at Georgetown

The final opponent from last year for Georgetown ends up being the first home opponent this year as GU entertains Richmond tonight. The Hoyas fell 75-69 in the First Round of the WNIT last season at Richmond. GU has won four straight road games to begin this season while Richmond is 3-1 with wins over Delaware, Florida and Georgia Southern. This is the first time since 1989 that the Spiders have paid a visit to McDonough Gym.
GU’s All-America candidate Rebekkah Brunson is the two-time Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week and has posted two straight double-doubles and has three in the first four games for Georgetown. She is averaging over 18 points and 15 boards a contest. The Hoyas defense has limited three of four opponents to under 40% shooting and has generated 82 turnovers. Bethany LeSueur has 13 steals to her credit and is Georgetown’s #2 rebounder with 5.0 per game. Only Mary Lisicky (11) and Kate Carlin (1) have hit three balls as the Hoyas have struggled from long range connecting on only 24.5%.
Richmond has sunk over 50% of its shots this year and is led by Kate Flavin, who has made 31-of-45 (.689) field goals and is averaging 20.0 points an outing. Two other Spiders along with Flavin post double digit points as sophomores Saona Chapman and Araceli Gil score 18.5 and 11.0 ppg. respectively.
