White and Butler Earn Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad swept the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Awards on Monday. Senior forward Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) was named the Player of the Week, while freshman center Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) won the Rookie of the Week award. It marks the first time this season the Hoyas have won two major awards in one week.
White scored a career-high 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a 66-65 win at Yale on Tuesday. She shot 11-of-17 (.647) from the field while also managing three assists and two steals. For the season, she is averaging 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to rank second on the squad.
This is her first-career Player of the Week honor and the fourth BIG EAST award of her career. She has won three BIG EAST honors this season.
Butler won the award again after contributing 15 points and 11 rebounds in the Yale victory. She also blocked three shots. Butler is first on the team in scoring with a 15.8 scoring mark, which places her seventh in the BIG EAST, she is the league's highest scoring freshman. Butler leads the BIG EAST in rebounding with a 12.1 average.
This is her fourth Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Georgetown has earned seven BIG EAST honors so far this year.
The Hoyas will be back in action on Friday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Georgetown will face Michigan State in the Puerto Rico Classic followed up by a matchup with Western Kentucky on Saturday.
