Georgetown's Freshmen, Women Crews Compete in Two Events
Weekend races mark end of Hoya season
Completing their fall season, the Georgetown men's and women's crew teams took part in two races during the weekend of November 11-12, the Belly of the Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. and the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va.
Freshman heavyweight and lightweight teams participated in three races at the Belly of the Carnegie. With their overall time of 1:35:38.60, the Hoyas placed fifth out of the five teams who came to Princeton.
Three Hoya boats competed in the Men's Heavyweight Eight, with Georgetown's 'B' team notching the best time of 15:00.39 for a 15th place finish. Following closely in 16th place was Georgetown's 'A' boat with a time 15:09.52. The 'C' crew timed out at 16:19.65 for 21st place. In the Men's Lightweight Eight, Georgetown saw two of its boats compete. The 'A' Team placed 13th and the 'B' Team placed 14th with times of 15:43.68 and 16:11.62, respectively.
The Hoya women, meanwhile, raced in the Women's Open Eight and notched consecutive finishes with their three crews. Georgetown's 'A' team finished in 17th place with a time of 17:37.36 and the 'B' team placed 19th with their 17:44.33 time. The 'C' Team, a lightweight squad, finished in between the other Hoya teams at 18th place. Their finishing time was 17:38.74.
GU's varsity women also competed in the Rivanna Romp on Sunday. Georgetown's 'A' team had the best finish in the Varsity 8+ race, placing 13th with a 15:03.1 time. The 'B' boat followed closely, clocking a 15:40.3 and finishing 15th. In their other race, Georgetown entered two boats in Fours competition. The 'A' team had a solid race, finishing 13th by virtue of their 16:31.2 time. Placing 18th, the 'B' team finished with a time of 17:26.5.
This weekend marked the end of Georgetown's fall campaign. They participated in seven events.
