Kelsey Smither Named Field Hockey Assistant Coach

Smither comes to the Hilltop from Ball State University

Georgetown University announced on January 2, 2017 that Christy Longacre was named its new head field hockey coach. Longacre comes to the Hilltop from Ball State University where she was the head coach for the past two seasons.

Longacre's 2017 squad at Ball State finished the season with 5-12 overall record and a mark of 1-5 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Her team boasted 10 Academic All-MAC selections and one All-MAC Second Team honoree.

In her first season as head coach, Longacre helped lead the team to an 8-11 record, the most for the program in the past 10 seasons, and the squad earned a MAC Tournament berth for the first time since 2011. She also coached a pair of All-MAC honorees and had seven players named Academic All-MAC.

Longacre served as an assistant coach at Ball State before being named the head coach in December of 2015.

The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native was a two-time All-American at Old Dominion University. She was named to the All-America first team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as a senior in 2013 and was a second-team selection as a junior in 2012. Longacre was also the conference defensive player of the year on two occasions, earning the award in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) as a junior and in the BIG EAST as a senior.

A two-time first team all-conference and NFHCA All-Region selection, Longacre scored 20 goals as a four-year letterwinner for Old Dominion. She helped the Monarchs to four-consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the national semifinals in 2011. In addition to her playing career at Old Dominion, Longacre competed on the Mid-Atlantic team at the 2010 and the 2011 Junior Women's National Championships.

Longacre earned her bachelor's degree in physical education/sports management from Old Dominion in December 2013.
