Sept. 2, 2011

Box Score

The Georgetown University field hockey team (1-2) downed Lehigh University (0-1) in Bethlehem, Pa. 3-2 on Friday night. Annie Wilson (Darien, Conn./Darien) had two goals for the Hoyas, including the game winner in overtime. Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) had one goal and the assist on Wilson's goal for the victory.

Wilson converted off a pass from Claire Mittermiller (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) for the 1-0 lead in the first half.  The second goal came off a penalty corner inserted by Caitlin Hickey (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy), placed by Laura Thistle (Glenside, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy), and shot into the left corner of the net by Shugrue.

The Hoyas were ahead 2-0 until the Mountain Hawks scored twice in six minutes midway through the second half. Madison Ingal and Caitlin Donnelly had a goal each for Lehigh.  This was the first game of the 2011 season for Lehigh, following more than a week of delay due to Hurricane Irene.

Ten minutes into overtime, Wilson received a cross from Shugrue in the circle, and poked the ball into the net for the win.

Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had 12 saves for the Hoyas. Shugrue and Wilson lead the team in scoring for the 2011 season with two goals each.

Georgetown field hockey plays the next two games on the road at Bryant University on September 9, and at Holy Cross on September 10. The Hoyas will return home to play Louisville in their first BIG EAST contest on Sept. 17.
