College Park, Md. - The Georgetown field hockey team suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 3 Connecticut (NFHCA/STX Division I National Coaches Poll) tonight at the University of Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. The loss drops the Hoyas to 2-10 overall on the season with a 0-3 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Huskies improve to 12-1 with a 2-1 slate in league action.
Junior forward Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) stifled a Connecticut shutout tonight as she connected on a penalty corner flick from sophomore Willemijn Wijsman (Hilversum, The Netherlands/International School Hilversum) and the set from senior Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest). Farrand drilled one off the woodwork to the left of UConn goalkeeper Brianna Koza.
Connecticut's Lizzy Peijs quickly attained a hat trick for the Huskies at the 12:40 mark. Peijs scored in the fourth, 10th and 13th minute, two were unassisted.
Junior goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) spent 47:49 in the cage and tallied 12 saves and allowed six goals. Freshman Tiffany Kaszuba (Howell, N.J./Red Bank Regional) relieved Crovo and spent 22:11 in the cage.
Connecticut's Andrea Mainiero played the first half before she was relieved by Brianna Koza in the second half. Koza allowed one goal and posted two saves.
The Huskies outshot the Hoyas, 33-5 and took 10 penalty corners to GU's one.
The Hoyas return to action on Wednesday, October 10 when they travel to Villanova, Pa. for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Wildcats.
