Field Hockey Falls on the Road at No. 8 Syracuse

WASHINGTON -

The Georgetown University field hockey team (2-12, 0-4 BIG EAST) lost 11-1 in a night game at No. 8 Syracuse (12-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) on Friday at 6 p.m. Catherine Shugrue (Devon Pa./Episcopal Academy) had the goal for the Hoyas.

Shugrue tallied her sixth goal this season when Syracuse led 2-0 in the first half. She converted on a penalty corner inserted by Claire Mittermiller (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) and placed by Laura Thistle (Glenside, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy). Thistle leads the Hoyas on the season with four assists. Shugrue leads the Blue & Gray in 2011 with 14 points and six goals.

Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had 14 saves for the Hoyas. Kelly Mosser (Fairfield N.J./West Essex) also saw action in the second half and had two saves.

Kelsey Millman led Syracuse with three goals.

The Georgetown field hockey team travels to Ithaca, N.Y. for a match against Cornell (5-6) on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m.
