WASHINGTON - Eleven Georgetown field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad when the awards were announced on March 19. Senior defender Kalli Krumpos (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) led the Hoyas as a four-year honoree.Juniors Annie Wilson (Darien, Conn./Darien), Kimberly Keating (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Laura Thistle (Glenside, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy), Claire Mittermiller (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) and Katy Wingo (Great Falls, Va./Langley) were notched for the National Academic team. Katie Dempsey (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Country Day School of the Sacred Heart), Jessica Natoli (Scotch Plains, N.J./Oak Knoll) and Caitlin Samela (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) were the sophomores tabbed to the list. Katie Stuke (Summit, N.J./Summit) was the only freshman named to the National Academic squad for the Hoyas. In addition to its individual honorees, Georgetown was one of 65 teams to earn the 2011 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. Teams must earn a GPA of 3.0 or better in the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year to be recognized. The Georgetown field hockey team maintained a 3.44 GPA, ranking just outside the top 5 in the nation. "We remain extremely proud of the high academic standards that our student-athletes hold for themselves,” said Head Coach Tiffany Marsh. “They work hard to excel in the classroom and on the field, exemplifying what being a Georgetown student-athlete is all about." The Blue & Gray will host its annual alumni game on April 14 at 3 p.m., on campus.
