WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team (0-4) opens its home schedule against the Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday, September 11 at 6 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md.

The game will be the first between the Hoyas and Wildcats and only the third time GU has played a team from the BIG TEN Conference in team history. The Blue and Gray defeated Indiana, 3-1 on September 28, 2002 and Michigan State, 2-1 on Sept. 11, 1991.

The young GU squad, featuring eight freshman and three sophomores on roster of 15, has been forced to grow up quickly. The Hoyas, under second year head coach Tiffany Marsh, opened the season on the road with two of their first four games coming against teams ranked in the Top 20 by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), including No. 20 Ohio and No. 1 North Carolina.

Sophomore Micaela O'Toole (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) leads the team with two goals and an assist, while senior captain Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and junior Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) have each scored a goal through four games.

Northwestern comes into town having won its last two games, defeating Miami (Ohio), 3-1 last Friday and shutting out Sacred Heart, 8-0 on Sunday. Senior Alexandra Quinn earned BIG TEN Conference player of the week scoring two goals in each of the Wildcats victories. Senior goalkeeper Emily Kyle earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week after posting her first career shutout against Sacred Heart.

After Northwestern the Hoyas host the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md.
