Hoyas Face Lehigh and Cornell on the Road This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown field hockey squad (0-4) continues their road stretch this weekend when they play at Lehigh (1-3) and Cornell (0-2).
The Hoyas play at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on Fri., Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks captured their first win of the season when they defeated Towson on the road this past Sunday, 1-0. Lehigh goalie freshman Julia Ward posted the first shutout of her career against Towson, making six saves on the day. Ward has 23 saves on the season.
Lehigh senior forward Caitlyn Mitchell and freshman Marissa Glatt lead the team with two goals each. The Mountain Hawks have five women with one goal each. Sophomore midfielder Erin Ricker leads the squad with two assists to go along with her team-leading 10 shot attempts. Overall, Lehigh has scored nine goals on their 44 shot attempts.
Georgetown then travels to Ithaca, N.Y. for a noon start on Sun., Sept. 15 against Cornell. Cornell has accumulated two loses in their only two games played through this past Sunday. They lost to Lock Haven in their home opener, 3-2 in overtime, and Albany on the road by a final score of 3-0. The Cornell Big Red host St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday before facing Georgetown on Sunday.
Cornell junior back Katherine Stone and sophomore back Marisa Siergiej each lead the team with one goal. Senior goalie Carolyn Horner has played every minute for the Big Red this season.
Georgetown looks for their first win of the season this weekend. Hoya sophomore forward Sarah Butterfield leads the team with two goals this season. Freshman midfielder Maria McDonald also scored her first goal of the season and career this past Friday against Towson. Freshman goalie Rosalie Nolen has started all four games for Georgetown this season, making a total of 29 saves while allowing 15 goals.
