Georgetown Travels to Providence and Lehigh This Weekend

Oct. 12, 2017

WASHINGTON - With only six games left of the season, the Georgetown field hockey team (7-6, 1-3 BIG EAST) will hit the road this weekend, travelling to BIG EAST rival Providence College and Lehigh University. The Hoyas will play at Providence under the lights on Friday at 6 p.m. and then will travel to Lehigh on Sunday to face off at 1 p.m. Both games will be available to watch via livestream and with live stats at www.GUHoyas.com.

The Blue & Gray is currently ranked third in the NCAA for most corners earned per game (9.77), just behind No. 1 UConn and No. 4 Virginia. The team is also ranked ninth for most assists per game (2.85), 12th in most points per game (8.69) and 16th in most goals per game (2.92). Freshman Cami Osborne (Newtown Sqaure, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) leads the Hoyas with nine goals this season, while junior Katie Maransky (Blue Bell, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy) leads the team with seven assists.

The Providence Friars are currently 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST. They are coming into Friday’s match off of a 1-1 weekend. Last weekend they defeated Quinnipiac, 2-1, but were shut out by UMass, 1-0. Mikayla Michals and Natalie Mitchell currently lead the Friars with four goals each. Manon van Weezel leads the team with five assists this season.

This will be the 15th meeting between Providence and Georgetown. The last time the two BIG EAST teams played against each other was during the 2016 campaign, when the Hoyas lost, 3-2, in overtime.

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks (3-9) are coming into the weekend off of an exciting overtime win against Lafayette, 1-0. They have scored only three goals within the last four games and are looking for another win on Saturday in a match against Lock Haven. Teresa Carotenuto currently leads Lehigh with four goals, while Drew Pecora comes in a close second with three goals and one assist.

The Hoyas have won the last two meetings against the Mountain Hawks. Last year Georgetown defeated Lehigh, 3-2. This will be the 10th time that the two teams will meet.

The Blue & Gray remains on the road next weekend when the team plays No. 1 UConn on Saturday, October 21, and then on Sunday at Sacred Heart.
