Women's Golf Ties School Record for Low Team Round at Birdies for Breast Cancer

Georgetown is tied for fourth place at Birdies for Breast Cancer

Led by a school record-tying score in the first round, the Georgetown University women's golf team is tied for fourth place among 10 teams after the first day of play at the Birdies for Breast Cancer, being hosted by the University of California-Riverside at Oak Quarry Golf Club in California.

Host UC-Riverside fired a 6-over par 582 - rounds of 2-over par 290 and 4-over par 292, respectively - and took an eight-shot lead after the first day of play, which comprised two rounds. California Baptist was in second place at 14-over par 590, with CSU-Northridge in third at 17-over par 593.

Georgetown was tied for fourth place with Western Kentucky at 25-over par 601.

The Hoyas tied a school record with an opening round of 7-over par 295, tying the mark of 295 set by the 2006 team during the BIG EAST Tournament. GU backed up that score with a second round 18-over par 306.

Sophomore Liz DiVincentis (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) leads the Hoyas after the first day of play, standing in a tie for ninth place at 4-over par 148 after consecutive scores of 2-over par 74, respectively.

Sophomore Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) is in 13th place at 5-over par 149, while sophomore Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) shot a 6-over par 150 and is tied for 14th place.

Freshman Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 3 Middle School) is tied for 19th place at 10-over par 154, including a team-best 1-over par 73 in the first round. Freshman Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy) is tied for 29th place at 14-over par 158.

Senior Stefanie Soelling (Everett, Wash./Everett), competing as an individual, is tied for 38th place at 17-over par 161.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday.
