WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Golf Coach Katie Brophy announced today that Jenny Xiao (Foshan, Guangdong, China) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will attend school on the Hilltop beginning in fall 2013.
"I'm very excited about adding Jenny to our roster," Brophy said. "She understands the importance of being a student, as well as an athlete. Her extensive international amateur experience will do great things for our squad."
Last year, Xiao won two events, posted eight top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes in 22 events. She was the winner at the Nanshan China Amateur Championship and the China Amateur Tour in Qingdao. In addition, she was a medalist at the Lockton Kansas City Junior and the Bass Pro Shop/Payne Stewart Junior Championship.
Xiao has won several age-group tournaments over the last five years while competing in China. In 2008, she was the winner at the HSBC China Junior Golf Tour Final in the 13-14 year-old group. In 2009, she won the JingHong International Junior Golf Championship, the Jack Nicklaus Junior Golf Championship (U-16) and the David Leadbetter Junior Golf Championship. In 2010, she captured the GuangDong Junior Golf Open in the 15-16 year-old group.
Georgetown posted two top-five finishes in four events during the fall season. The Hoyas open the 2013 spring season on February 4, competing at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
