WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women’s golf team spent its spring break traveling through Nevada and Arizona this year, visiting tourist sites while also playing in a pair of tournaments. Members of the team provided a day-by-day account of their trip.
We landed safely in Las Vegas and are staying at the Fiesta Casino, about 20 minutes from the strip. We started our first full day in Vegas by having breakfast on the Strip at the Venetian. We explored the Venetian and the strip before heading over to Boulder Creek for a practice round. Though it was one of the windiest conditions we have ever experienced, we put together an efficient and solid practice round. We are excited to open our spring season in such a beautiful spot as Boulder City and good vibes to come for the Lady Hoyas
Today we woke up bright and early for the first day of the Battle at Boulder Creek tournament. After a quick breakfast and warm-up at Boulder Creek, the team drove out to its starting hole and began the 36-hole day. Captain Jacquelyn Eleey led the Hoyas round one with a one-under-par 71, followed by an even par 72 from me. Sophomore Alexa Popowitz shot a two-over-par 74, while Christina Parsells shot a 3-over-par 75. The second 18 of the day proved to be tougher for us, but Christina fired an even par 72. Jacquelyn followed with a 4-over 76. Excited to battle it out at Boulder Creek tomorrow for the final round!
Today the team had another early rise for the final round of the Battle at Boulder Creek. It was a sunny day, and we were feeling ready to post some low numbers and we ended up shooting a team score of 296. Alexa had our low round of the day with a 71, followed by me with a 74. Jacquelyn came in with a 75, and Ashley with a 76. Ultimately, we were able to claim second place, adding another trophy to our collection. When we departed from Boulder Creek, we began our drive to Flagstaff. First, though, we needed to stop at the Hoover Dam, which was really cool! When we were getting close to Flagstaff, we made one more very important stop… In-N-Out! Definitely a team favorite when we travel to the west coast. Today was a very action-packed, exciting day and everyone went to sleep excited for tomorrow’s Grand Canyon adventure!
Today we have our practice round at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course for the GCU Invitational. We got to sleep in today, which was nice. Before the round, we ate lunch at the GCU Clubhouse and the food was delicious. Conditions for the round were prime with the temperature in the high 80s with a light breeze. We had an efficient and enjoyable time playing together and learning the course. Afterwards, GCU treated us to a delicious dinner at its campus. It was a great way to start our second tournament.
After a great practice round and a good night of sleep, we were ready for a 36-hole day. The first and second rounds of the Grand Canyon University Golf Tournament started with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. It was a warm, sunny day in Phoenix and the course was in great shape. We started off with a good first round of 268. Jacquelyn fired the lowest round of her collegiate career with a 68 and had nine birdies! I shot a 74, followed by Ashley with a 75 and Kate and Pendleton with an 80. The second 18 of the day was not our best, but we learned a lot about our games and will be ready for the next 36-hole event. We finished the day with a great dinner at the course and got to bed super early to be well rested for round three.
