WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman woman's golfer Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 2 Middle School) was named the BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Year and was one of three Hoyas honored by the BIG EAST with all-league honors.
The Hoyas finished in second place in the 2014 BIG EAST Conference Championship, capping off a 2013-14 season in which the team posted seven top-10 finishes.
Xiao was one of three players honored by the league, joined by sophomores Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) and Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch), who were selected to the All-BIG EAST team.
Xiao debuted with a tie for 19th at the William & Mary Invitational from Sept. 15-17 and added another top-25 showing in the Birdies for Breast Cancer event in early October. After a tough start to her spring, she rebounded with a tie for 40th at the Hoya Women's Invitational before eventually finishing 10th at the BIG EAST Championships. She carded a 76 on the first day of play and sat two strokes off the lead and hung around the leaderboard the rest of the weekend. She finished with an 18-over 234 to tie for 10th place.
Boydston played in 10 tournaments during the 2013-14 season and led the Hoyas with a 77.48 stroke average. She closed out the year with a tie for second at the BIG EAST Championship, carding a 13-over par 229. Boydston posted three top-20 finishes during the year and six among the top-30 overall.
Lee, meanwhile, was second on the team with a 77.83 stroke average, playing in 10 tournaments and competing in 24 rounds. She carded a 15-over par 231 at the BIG EAST Championship and finished in eighth place. Lee had two top-10 finishes during the year, tying for ninth place at the Lehigh Invitational in addition to her BIG EAST finish.
