WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Golf Coach Katie Brophy was selected to participate in the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Women's Leadership Symposium (WLS) this week in North Carolina.
Brophy, who was selected out of a large group of applicants to attend this conference, has participated in WLS events two times prior to this, having previously attended conferences in Chicago (2009) and Indianapolis (2011).
The NACWAA Women's Leadership Symposium is developed for women aspiring to or just beginning a career in intercollegiate athletics. This program aims to enrich participants' skills, expand their professional network and promote the recruitment of women working in intercollegiate athletics administration. The program asks participants to take an active role in exploring personal branding, leadership, Title IX, diversity education and career advancement.
This past weekend, Brophy participated in a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour event at Kingsmill in Virginia. Brophy served as an instructor in the LPGA Lesson Zone and conducted a 10-minute lesson to amateur golfers and fans alongside the tour professionals as they were warming up for the tournament. In addition, Brophy participated in the LPGA Junior Golf Clinic, helping to teach the fundamentals of the game to kids in attendance.
The Hoyas finished in second place in the 2014 BIG EAST Conference Championship, capping off a 2013-14 season in which the team posted seven top-10 finishes. Three of Brophy's golfers earned All-BIG EAST recognition, including freshman Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 2 Middle School), who was named the BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Year.
