WASHINGTON - Two Georgetown University women's golfers were among a group of student-athletes selected to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar Teams for Divisions I, II and III.
More than 600 collegiate women's golfers were selected in the three divisions. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in college athletics, with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
Georgetown rising senior Audrey Dalton (Portland, Ore./St. Mary) and recent graduate Joan Dulieu (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) were both selected to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team. It was the second time that Dulieu has earned the honor.
Eight BIG EAST schools had student-athletes selected to the team, while seven schools had multiple recipients.
"I'm very proud of Audrey and Joan for this great achievement," Head Coach Katie Brophy said. "They were tremendous leaders for us on and off the course this past year and I'm sure Audrey will carry that through again in her senior year. It's great to be the coach of a team of young women who care so much about their academics and their sport."
Dalton, a linguistics major, posted a 3.602 grade-point average during the 2011-12 academic year, while Dulieu, an international business and finance major, carried a 3.717 GPA.
Dalton, who was named a team captain for the 2012-13 season, posted an 83.20 stroke average last year, which ranked sixth on the team, and appeared in all of the team's spring tournaments, trying for 40th place at the BIG EAST Championship. She is interning at Nike this summer, selected as part of a group of Division I student-athletes to work at their headquarters. Dalton is working in the U.S. Kids Merchandising Department.
Dulieu, who graduated in May, finished fifth on the team in stroke average last year at 79.39. She posted two top-20 finishes, tying for 14th place at the Fighting Camel Classic and then tying for 16th place at the Hoya Invitational.
The Hoyas open the 2012-13 season on Sunday, Sept. 9, competing in the Golfweek Preview, a showcase event in Pawleys Island, S.C. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs through Tuesday, Sept. 11 and features 12 teams.
