Brophy, Hoyas Head to Yale to Start 2011-12 Women's Golf Season
Sept. 15, 2011
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team will open its season this weekend, competing at the Yale Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held at the Course at Yale, starting on Saturday, Sept. 17. The final round of play will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18.
This will be the first tournament for the Hoyas under new head coach Katie Brophy, who took over the program during the summer.
"I'm very excited about the group we have going to Yale," Brophy said. "After 72 holes of qualifying, I am very confident we have the best representatives of Georgetown women's golf traveling to this event.
"On a personal note for our program, many alumni have reached out to me as this was their first tournament in college as well. For them, it was one that brings back great memories of their golf experience here. I know that our current players will have a similar reaction to their weekend in New Haven (Conn.). Bringing home a trophy would surely elicit positive feelings."
The Hoyas return six players from last year's team that tied for fourth place at the BIG EAST Championship.
Leading the way will be seniors Joan Dulieu (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and Eunae Jo (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). Jo led the team in stroke average last season (77.50) and finished in seventh place at the BIG EAST Championship, while Dulieu, a two-time National Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-American, was second on the team at 77.63.
Others in the lineup include sophomore Alice Choi (Whitestone, N.Y./Bayside), freshman Isabelle Galantino (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore Molly Concannon (Boston, Mass./Grimsley [N.C.]).
"Our team has been very receptive to the new culture that is being created here," Brophy said. "I'm really looking forward to great things from the Hoyas this year and down the road."
