Georgetown Begins Play in Nittany Lion Invitational on Friday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team is back in action this weekend, competing in the 37th Annual Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State in State College, Pa. First round play begins on Friday, Sept. 27 at 11:15 a.m.
The Hoyas will be among 14 teams playing this weekend, including host Penn State, along with Old Dominion, Columbia, Yale, Longwood, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio University, Bucknell, Western Michigan, Kent State, and William & Mary.
The Nittany Lion Invitational is being played on the par 72, 6,263-yard Penn State Blue Course.
Georgetown opened the season with a sixth place finish at the William & Mary Invitational two weeks ago, finishing with a three-round score of 63-over par 915. The Hoyas fired a 14-over par 298 in the second round, the best single round score under third year head coach Katie Brophy and the second-best round in program history behind a 295 in the 2006 BIG EAST Tournament.
Sophomore Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) was the top finisher for Georgetown in the season opener, shooting a final round 4-over par 75 and finishing in a tie for 13th place at 12-over par 225.
Also placing among the top-20 were sophomore Liz DiVincentis (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional), who carded a 4-over par 75 in the final round and finished in 18th place at 18-over par 231, and freshman Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 3 Middle School), who fired a team-best 1-over par 72 in the second round and tied for 19th place at 19-over par 232.
The rest of the Georgetown lineup will include senior Alice Choi (Whitestone, N.Y./Bayside), sophomore Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) and freshman Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy).
Tournament play at the Nittany Lion Invitational continues on Saturday, Sept. 28 and concludes on Sunday, Sept. 29, both with 9 a.m. shotgun starts.
